The Best Tea To Soothe Colds: My Starbucks Copycat

Ever have one of those days (or weeks) where you feel like you’re coming down with something?  But with everything you have going on in your Mom-Life…you don’t have time to succumb to a full blown cold?

Moms, let me share with you a lifesaving, magical concoction to ease even the harshest of colds, body aches, and throat pain.

(WARNING: May not be sufficient enough to soothe the Man Cold. Because that is apparently equivalent to labor pains and there is no hope – insert eye roll)

I’m A Mom & Fitness Instructor…And Had No Voice

A few weeks ago I came down with laryngitis (loss of voice), which as a Mom and fitness instructor, made existing nearly impossible. Truth…I get laryngitis a few times a year. Likely from a worn-down immune system and overuse of my vocal cords (a.k.a yelling at my kids).

I was desperate for something…anything, to relieve the strain and burn I felt in my throat.  So I ventured into Starbucks and begged for a hot tea recommendation. My favorite Barista, Judy, recommended their Medicine Ball Tea – a “secret” off-menu item.

Hallelujah! It was just what I needed! Its has an impeccable combination of refreshing (mint), sweet (peach and lemonade), and soothing (honey)!

Tip: If you haven’t googled “Starbucks secret menu items” – do it now!

DYI Version!

Thing is, my daily trip to Starbucks for my “Medicine Ball” wasn’t agreeing with my bank account. So I did some digging (a.k.a. asked Barista Judy) for the list of ingredients and was impressed by its simplicity!  I purchased lemonade and honey from my local grocery store and ordered the tea from my Mothership…Amazon Prime! Ta-Da…I now make this gem at home! And in the midst of this COVID-19 virus craziness…this hot cup of tea has been soothing my nerves as well!

Medicine Ball Recipe (click the links to shop the products)

1 - 2 TBS of honey (I find 1 TBS is plenty sweet for me)
1 Teavana Peach Tranquility Tea Bag
1 Teavana Jade Citrus Mint Tea Bag
1/2 c Steamed Lemonade (I just pour it in cold)
1/2 c boiling water

You’re going to love the taste…I promise! But more importantly, it will soothe your ailments and make you feel all warm inside. You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less honey and/or lemonade. You can increase the benefits even more by using raw honey which has probiotics, antioxidants, and gut benefits.

Give it a try and let me know what you think! I’d love to hear from you!
